Sharlene ordered this board from Cip this fall and flew over to pick it up in November. All she wanted to do when she got here was to surf, and visit the UDown shop in Kailua. (NOtiCE THE OUTFIT). We managed to catch some peaceful late evening glass, and to catch up. I was interested to know why she came up with the design she did, and this is pretty much what she told me:
"This board is extra-special to me for
several reasons. First and foremost, Cip has always been able to key-in
on a person's, body, style, and type of waves in order to make the board
best to fit the surfer's needs. When you're surfing on Cip's boards, he
makes you look good. The design of this board brings back many thoughts
of important things
in my life back "in the day". The bright orange is reminiscent
of the "color-coded orange" bathing suits we wore years ago working
on the beach. Bright orange suits made by Taki identified
those of us from the Beach Service. Having a board made by Cip, and remembering
those days on the beach remind me of meeting my very best friend in the
whole wide world: my sister in life-- Ginny, Cippy's wife."

"The 70's-style peace sign is just, as they said back in the day, What it is!

My daughter, a child I've born, is a United States Marine. In my heart, I feel that her purpose is not in winning a war, but in making and maintaining peace. May we all hold this peace within us, may we find peace in the ocean, and may we pursue and perpetuate peace in all areas of our lives."
From Classic Surfboards to all of you, Happy New Year 2008! Peace Out, Man! gc
